The costume looks just like what someone would throw together if they tried to go out and fight crime in real life, and while many would rather see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit added first, there is no reason that both cannot come.
The only sign of the classic Spider-Man appearance is a bright red mask, with some sunglasses worn over the eyes and a beanie placed on top of Peter’s head.
Peter can be seen wearing a regular jacket and a pair of jeans, with his hands exposed and no blue seen anywhere. While the first costume worn by Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man is incredibly basic, that is part of the charm. As such, the “Vigilante” suit should get some love.
Though the movies’ mishandling of Spidey’s villains and a hipster Peter Parker have led to them being the least popular of the three big live action adaptations, The Amazing Spider-Man series has its fans. With Tom Holland’s homemade suit already in the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, and the sequel having a great opportunity to add Tobey Maguire’s, it is only fair that Andrew Garfield’s first suit gets some love. Though it is hardly protective, it gets the job done when it comes to fighting in a wrestling ring, and it could stand out from other costumes. A red balcava mask shoes Peter’s eyes clearly, while some white gloves and blue pants complete the look. Dubbed “The Human Spider,” the suit features a stylish red sweatshirt with a hastily-made Spider symbol. Worn after he first gets his powers, and before he learns a very important lesson regarding power and responsibility, Spidey’s wrestler attire is a nice mix between goofy and memorable. As such, many players would likely be happy to wear the first costume designed by Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. While the movies do have their flaws, they do other things very well, and a combination of nostalgia and memes have helped make the Raimi movies iconic over the years. This is because of the sheer popularity of Tobey Maguire’s take on the wall-crawler.
Of the two handmade suits, the one worn in the original Spider-Man movie is the most likely to come to the game. With many Spidey fans likely planning to rewatch the Raimi trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man movies ahead of No Way Home’s release, they could get a reminder of two costumes that were worn by the live action Spider-Men for a brief amount of time. Despite this, they have not been suggested by fans nearly as much, though the upcoming release of Spider-Man: No Way Home could change that. While all these costumes would be welcome, there are two other costumes that seem like no-brainers. Miles Morales’ recent Captain America-inspired outfit would also be fun, as would Zombie Hunter Spider-Man from the MCU’s What If…? series. The Moon Knight and Spider-Man mash-up Arachknight has been one of the more popular suggestions, as has Otto Octavius’ Superior Spider-Man costume. What do you think? Do you agree that Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker should have a side job in fashion, or does your underwhelming opinion of his Spider-Man portrayal outweigh your feelings of his costume’s aesthetic appeal? You can say what you want about how Maguire acted as Peter Parker, but you cannot deny that he looked good doing it.
Other than the traditional red and blue, its anatomically correct front and back spider emblems, platinum webbing and the meanest-looking eyes Spidey has ever had made this suit a true original that has never been duplicated to the same standard as far as I am concerned. Because Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man was a game changer for comic book movies in 2002, it was only appropriate that Tobey Maguire’s suit would be a game changer for costume design in comic book movies.
